worksafer helps you avoid trouble.
Most workplaces frown on visiting websites with pornography, loud noises, disturbingly violent images, or distracting animations. But how can you tell what's behind that link you're about to click? With the worksafer Mozilla/Firefox extension, you can surf the web secure in the knowledge that unsafe sites are marked NSFW, and before your browser fetches those pages it'll warn you, giving you a chance to stop trouble before it starts.
Before your browser loads a page, the worksafer extension checks its URL. If the NSFW score exceeds your your safety threshold (which you can set in the right-hand column), you'll be directed to a message warning you that the page may be NSFW. You'll be able to choose whether to continue; it's completely up to you.
How do I cast my votes?
If you're using the worksafer Firefox Extension (by clicking the link above), you can simply click on the safe icon
in the lower right-hand corner of your browser window to pop up a menu. Clicking the options in this menu will allow you to vote for the site in your browser.
If you don't want to install the extension, you can use the appropriate vote bookmarklet (in the right-hand column) to submit your opinion of whatever site you're viewing. By participating this way, you help others surf safely, and they, in turn, help you.
How is a URL's NSFW score calculated?
The NSFW score is generated by a simple heuristic that takes into account the number of voters, how they voted, whether the domain the URL is under is considered NSFW by a majority of voters, and how many similar URLs (pages in the same path, for instance) are considered NSFW by a majority of voters.
By using an heuristic that takes all these factors into account, worksafer attempts to intelligently determine if a URL is likely to be NSFW even if it hasn't been voted on by many people, and by doing so, helps protect you from accidentally viewing unsafe URLs.
Does worksafer work on my non-Mozilla browser?
Unfortunately, worksafer is only designed to work on Mozilla browsers at this time.
